Hexanaut.io
Introduction to Hexanaut.io
Hexanaut.io is a competitive multiplayer .io territory-capturing game where the map itself is the prize. Its tail-based movement brings a touch of the classic Snake game. In this PvP game, your trail is used to capture territory and outplay other players. Guide your character beyond the safety of your colored territory, draw a tail across the hexagonal grid, then reconnect with your land to claim everything enclosed inside. Bigger loops can grab more tiles, but they also expose your tail long enough for another player to slice it and eliminate you. Totems add another tactical layer with bonuses for speed, map control, teleportation, and enemy tracking. The ultimate goal is to control 20% of the map, become the King, and defend that position long enough to win.
Hexanaut.io Key Features
- Real-time territory battles: Expand across a shared hexagonal arena while opponents compete for the same space.
- Risk-based capturing: Larger loops gain territory faster but leave a longer, more vulnerable tail.
- Tail-cutting combat: Slice an exposed opponent's trail to eliminate them before they reconnect.
- Multiple game modes: Play Free For All, team up in Duo, use special items in PRO Free For All, or try rotating Weekly rules.
- King victory system: Reaching 20% territory is only the first step - you still need to protect your lead.
- Ranks and leaderboards: Match performance contributes toward competitive ranks, from Copper through Elite.
Gameplay Guide for Hexanaut.io
Hexanaut.io looks simple because movement is almost automatic, but winning is mostly about territory management, calculated risk, and reading other players.
Capture Territory and Protect Your Tail
Start inside your territory, then move outside its border to create a trail. Loop back into your own land and all enclosed hexagons become yours. Capturing territory also helps you level up and gain a speed bonus.
The danger begins as soon as you cross your border. Your exposed tail can be cut by another player, so enormous loops are tempting but risky. Small, controlled captures are usually safer when opponents are nearby.
Capture Totems for Tactical Bonuses
Totems scattered around the arena can make expansion and defense much easier:
- Speed Totem
- Spreading Totem
- Spy Dish
- Teleport Gate
- Slowing Totem
Their value changes with the situation. Spreading helps build land without exposing your tail.
Become King and Hold the Map
Controlling 20% of the arena crowns you King. That status brings advantages, including extra speed and information about opponents on the minimap, but it also paints a target on your back because other players can see your position.
Once crowned, a countdown begins. Keep your territory above the required threshold until the timer expires to secure the win. This turns the late game from pure expansion into a tense defense battle: sometimes protecting what you already own is smarter than chasing another huge section of the map.

Tips and Tricks for Territory Control
- Expand with short loops near enemies. A small gain is better than losing everything to one tail cut.
- Attack exposed tails, not protected territory. Opponents become vulnerable when they leave their own land.
- Prioritize useful Totems. Speed and Spreading Totems can make early expansion considerably easier.
- Use your minimap once your territory grows. Large domains are difficult to watch from a single position.
- Change tactics after becoming King. Protecting the 20% threshold matters more than recklessly grabbing extra tiles.
