Backrooms: Escape Together
Step Through the Door and Lose Your Way
An ordinary doorway opens into a place that feels both familiar and completely wrong. Yellow walls stretch in every direction under the constant hum of fluorescent lights. The rooms look almost identical, yet none of them lead where you expect.
In Backrooms: Escape Together, you control a small robot sent into this liminal maze. Your task is to search containers, gather useful items, and find a way back to base before the environment wears you down. You can go alone or bring a second player on the same screen. Every successful extraction lets you improve your base and prepare for deeper runs.
What You’ll Actually Do Inside
The core loop is straightforward but tense:
- Enter the maze and start exploring the repeating rooms.
- Search containers for tools, materials, and equipment.
- Equip items from the bottom bar that help you move, search, or defend yourself.
- Stay oriented (or communicate with your partner) while looking for an extraction point.
- Return to base with whatever you managed to carry out.
- Spend materials on new stations that make future expeditions smoother.
The game rewards careful observation more than speed. Rushing usually means getting lost or leaving valuable loot behind.

Practical Tips for Better Runs
- Treat the first few rooms as a scouting phase rather than a looting spree.
- In two-player mode, call out rooms you’ve already checked — it saves a lot of backtracking.
- Early on, prioritize tools that speed up searching or movement over pure combat items.
- Extract while you still feel in control. A smaller haul that reaches the base is more useful than a full inventory lost in the maze.
- Invest base materials in stations that reduce friction on future runs instead of chasing short-term power spikes.
- Lower the music volume if you want to hear environmental cues more clearly.
