Don't Stare
About Don’t Stare
Don’t Stare is a narrative-driven stealth platformer with a refreshingly original premise: surviving a world full of extroverts who desperately want to talk to you. You play as the Introvert, navigating a hand-drawn city while trying to reconnect a shattered friend group after a party that went very, very wrong.
Blending humor, heart, and clever mechanics, Don’t Stare turns everyday social anxiety into creative gameplay, telling a coming-of-age story that feels both personal and relatable.
Stealth Gameplay with a Social Twist
Instead of hiding from monsters, you are avoiding extroverts, pushy salespeople, loud strangers, and even screaming babies who drain your social energy. The stealth is frantic but forgiving, encouraging experimentation rather than punishing mistakes.
The game’s standout mechanic revolves around eye contact. By making or breaking eye contact with extroverts, you trigger their unique abilities, which can either help or hinder your progress. Learning when to look and when not to is key to moving forward.
Game Features
Don’t Stare features classic platforming actions like jumping, climbing, sliding, bouncing, and flipping. For players who enjoy mastery, there is an optional parkour system that allows faster, more stylish traversal at the cost of higher risk.
Levels are designed to support both careful movement and bold, expressive playstyles, letting you choose how safely or dangerously you want to progress.
Customization, Comfort, and Recovery
Between levels, you can:
- Decorate your room with furniture from different styles and cultures
- Customize your Introvert with expressive clothing and accessories
- Pet animals to recharge your social energy and save progress
These features add warmth and personalization, giving players space to relax and reset just like an introvert would.
Game Controls
Don’t Stare uses simple, responsive controls that keep the focus on movement, stealth, and timing rather than complex inputs:
- Move – Control the Introvert’s movement across platforms and environments
- Jump – Leap over obstacles and reach higher areas
- Climb / Slide – Navigate vertical spaces and tight passages
- Make / Break Eye Contact – Interact with extroverts and trigger their abilities
- Interact – Engage with objects, characters, and environmental elements
Don’t Stare succeeds because it turns everyday social discomfort into meaningful, playful mechanics. It is funny without being shallow, emotional without being heavy-handed, and creative without being confusing.
